The local History section sponsored by The Museum of East Dorset is a collection of fascinating Dorset history articles featured in the BV magazine.
In this section we present the late Roger Guttridge’s ‘Looking Back’ columns. These columns tell the often-forgotten stories of local heroes, villains, characters and their places within the Blackmore Vale.
Also Roger’s ‘Then & Now’ comparisons – how the Blackmore Vale looks now compared to the same spot perhaps 120 years ago. And now more latterly we are grateful to Barry Cuff and his extensive postcard collection in continuing this theme.
Barry Cuff also delights us with his front and back postcards giving us a unique insight into Dorset’s social history.
The Museum of East Dorset will also show us unusual objects from the past and a link to all our childhoods and much more besides!
This section also previously featured Paul Birbeck, a Blue Badge local guide based in Sherborne. Through his articles Paul examined various local places and shared their social history.
There are also often interesting guest posts from various historians, both amateur and professional such as Rupert Hardy from the CPRE.
All these columns give a fascinating insight into the history of the Blackmore Vale and wider Dorset.
